Research Writer Interview With Jomo
Research and Writing Go Hand to Hand
My name is Jomo and I have more than four years of work experience as a Research Writer. Briefly, my other relevant qualifications include a degree in Doctorate of Education, Teaching and Learning, at Argosy University online, Educational Specialist Educational, School and Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri at Columbia, Columbia, MO online; a Masters of Education School Counseling degree from Albany State University, Albany, GA; and a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology degree at the University of Georgia, Albany, GA. On the other hand, I have over 13 years’ experience in various education and community development roles which involved online tutoring, curriculum and lesson plan development, child counseling, and classroom management, among others.
My interests include, reading books, hanging out with friends, watching movies, and researching. However, my favorite is working on my second novel and writing screenplays, sitcoms and stage plays. Writing films and novels are my passion and I have written six feature length screenplays (period, thriller, true story, fantasy, crime, drama, suspense and supernatural), two short length screenplays, and a coming-of-age novel. It is my dream, ever since I was a little boy to become the next Steven Spielberg one day.
I have a passion for working with children because they truly are our future and after spending ten years in the school system, I have learned that it does take a whole village to raise a child. For the past year and a half, I have furthered my counseling experience by serving as a mentor to a seventeen year-old boy. Our activities revolve around specific goals we would like to accomplish through our mentor match. It is extremely rewarding to know that I am someone with whom my “mentee” can work with to achieve his goals, and with whom he can talk to regarding such issues as peer pressure and social relationships. It gives me great personal and professional satisfaction that I am a positive force in my “mentee’s” life.
Writing means a lot to me because I have been doing it ever since I was ten years old. As a child I would write my own little sitcoms and little novels. As I grew older and went off to college, I began to fall in love with research. I found out real quick that writing and research go hand and hand. It is really hard to have one without the other. Almost like two a marriage. The more I researched, the more I found a lot of things to write about particularly in my spare time. Then I realized the more that I wrote the better I seemed to get at it and before it was all over with, I turned into a freelance writer.
After gaining three years’ of experience in the freelance industry, writing for various print and online media and also for online writing tutoring agencies such as Smarthinking Inc. became my zeal. I had no idea that I would have so much fun and the perfect job working as an online freelance writer and copywriter in the academic environment. Before I knew it, I was gaining experience writing in different styles for numerous target audiences on topics such as academic, fashion, music, resumes and general news and events.
Working as a freelance writer I have had to use my initiative to source projects and contacts. Freelancing has required me to have excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills to successfully manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines. My focus and excellent time management skills enable me to work independently without distraction. With that said, writing for an academic company would be my cup of tea because writing is my life.
