Research Writer Interview With Britney

I Enjoyed Being a Student. Now I'm a Writer and Teacher.

Education is the key to success. Ever since I was small I’ve always loved learning. In addition I love to teach others as well. I had my first teaching experience around the age of ten. At my last church I was the chorographer for our dance team. Around that time I’d been dancing for six years and I was considered to have some experience in dance. I really enjoyed teaching the youth how to dance and I believed they enjoyed it too. During my time at Hampton University, I’d major in Psychology and my major allowed us to work in the public school environment as mentors.

After careful consideration I decided I wanted to teach elementary students. I had spoken to my counselor and she suggested I get my Master of Education to become a licensed Virginia teacher. So I enrolled in Jones International University. I graduated in the year of 2011 earning my degree. Even though I complained like most students, I can honestly say I really enjoyed being a student. Learning something new and applying was delightful. Writing papers, reports and doing presentations were fun to me.

When I was in pursuit of my major there I had plenty opportunities to implement what I had learned in my classes. During my classes there is an in-field assignment, where we applied what we learn into actual practice. At the end we would write a concluding report about our experiences. Most of the assignments where generate lesson plans that follows the guidelines of our state curriculums. We also had to describe how to incorporate technology into the classroom.

The last class I took was my student teaching practicum. This is when we are to teach an actual class for 8 weeks. Our mentor teacher is to assist us and help us correlate our lesson and activities for the students. During this we kept a Reflective Journal. We wrote what we taught, how we taught the lesson and the time we spent teaching. It was a very eye-opening experience. When I was studying at Hampton University many Psychology students had to enroll into the HUSH program (Hampton University Student Helping).

We also had to enroll in an elementary school and assist the teachers in their lessons. I worked along side a teacher at James River Elementary school. Most of the students were very easy to deal with and there were a few who had a little problem in class. Some had behavioral issues and other physical issues. . I’ve had the pleasure to venture out into the teaching career. I worked along side a teacher at James River Elementary school. Most of the students were very easy to deal with and there were a few who had a little problem in class. Some had behavioral issues and other physical issues.

Due to this difference, many students are ignored and picked on. So I developed and activity that everyone could join in, sandcastle building. Quite a few students never had seen a real sandcastle before or even know how to build one. I started with one student, Michael, and I showed him how to setup towers and build walls. Michael has a problem of hearing and he can’t speak so well, so most of the kids don’t associate with him. I’ve notice that he learns well when he can see and feel what is being taught to him. Making parts of a sandcastle helped to better understand his shapes. I also allowed him to add his own finishing touches so he could include his creativity too. Before too long many other students wanted to make their own sandcastle too; some even wanted to work with Michael. I hope was to teach them about teamwork, acceptance and creativity.

Even though I love teaching I do have other interests in my life. For one I love the performing arts. I’ve said before that I dance at my church as well as teach. Dancing is not only movement of the body but it integrates acting as well. I’ve performed in quite a few productions at my church. I also love going to the theater (movie or live). However, my secret is writing stories. My sister got me interested in writing when I saw how wonderful her writing was. I mainly like writing children’s books, fantasy and fairytales. I my love for writing probably come from my love of reading.
